HALLMARKING
The process of ASSAYING is to determine whether the precious metal content of the alloy in silver or gold meets the required standard. The UK Hallmarking system has been offering protection for over 700 years.
Thomas P Cochran Ltd is registered with the Birmingham Assay Office which has been in existence since 1773.
All of our jewellery is Solid Sterling Silver and is guaranteed nickel free. Each piece in silver that weighs 7.8g or over is sent to the Assay office for hallmarking. This is your guarantee that your piece of jewllery meets the legal standard of purity of silver.
All of our Gold pieces over 1g are sent for hallmarking.

A Very Special Hallmark for 2022
We have added for this year the X Mark for 2022 and the Special Commemorative Mark to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
This Mark ends December 2022 making these pieces unique and collectable.
